I've completed staining and assembly. Isn't she beautiful?
I'm really pleased with how she turned out. The boyfriend has mixed feelings about the pink, but I think its wonderful. I love those Schacht wheels I've seen with the red, but I wasn't overly excited with red next to the dark wood color I wanted, so I went with "watermelon pink"!
Seeing it in action, it looks absolutely nothing like watermelon, more like bubble gum, but that's perfectly pleasant as well.
I haven't had a chance to actually spin yet for a few different reasons.
1. Finals next week. I have been doing fairly well in my classes thus far and as of last night I currently have all my homework turned in except for a little tiny math assignment due the day of the final. I do still need to study and likely won't have the chance to spin until finals are over.
2. TARDIS socks. Upon realizing that there is a good chance the sweater I'm working on for my boyfriend will be too small (He refused to take measurements for me, and evidently is no longer a 'men's large') I needed a new plan. We are both avid Doctor Who fans, so I'm making him these:
Since I'll be there again for winter break, I am trying to get these done by the 5th. I think it is doable, but I may end up having to sneak the finishing rows after I get there while he's away at work. Also, I'm using a chart that can be found here, on Ravelry, and the rest of the sock I'm kind of just 'winging it'. I've also decided to make the heel and toe white, as I saw in another version on Ravelry, in a silly attempt to save enough of the blue yarn to make myself a pair afterwards ;)
Another bit of news in the Christmas gift track, I've decided to make my mother a lace knit scarf. I've made a tiny bit of progress so far
The pattern for this can be found here also on Ravelry. I really liked this pattern, it makes me think 'fancy french wallpaper'. Also, I'm using the same Paton Kroy FX yarn that I am using for the mystery shawl, simply because I really like those color changes!
What Christmas gifts are you working on this year?

Ugh, finals, why do they exist?! The pink wouldn't be my personal preference, but it is your wheel and you have full control over how you want it to look, don't listen to the nay-sayers. I think that it is very unique because of the colors you picked, and that is so wonderful! I look forward to seeing some pretty handspun!
