Vivian and the Photo Box

Whew. Been a hectic week.

My stepmother's birthday is on the 18th, and I'm making her a shawl. I had hoped to get it done today, because her and my dad are coming down to fix my plumbing (the tub refuses to drain at a rate of more than 1 drop per second) and it would save me a trip up there next week.

Alas, I have been sucked into the glorious worlds of League of Legends, Planetside 2, and Minecraft. Note: The first two of these are free to play. If you haven't yet tried them and enjoy online video games, I recommend them! I also highly recommend Minecraft if you're the creative type. Though I must warn you, incredibly addictive.

Anyways, back to knitting. I don't have a picture of the shawl yet, but I do have another project on my needles that I'm very excited about! Vivian, a sweater I found (and bought) on Ravelry. I spent a lot of time looking for just the right sweater for myself while I was in Washington, so I could nab some fancy yarn from the local yarn shop up there. I ended up getting Dream in Color Classy in Absolute Magenta. They were having a New Years Sale, so I got each skein for 20% off!

I also nabbed some interchangeable circulars, the harmony wood done by Knitpicks. I looooooove these needles. Until now I have been using relatively cheap plastic needles picked up from Michaels, and these are such a huge improvement.

I am planning on buying the entire set when I have a good chunk of spare change to spend on them.

This brings me to my final update for the week. I got a small portable photo studio, complete with a backdrop and lights to hopefully enhance the quality of my pictures. My camera has still not arrived (but should on Monday) so the pictures today were taken with my smart phone.

My only complaint is that the backdrops were folded up tightly for shipping so I'll need to do something about the massive creases in them!

I am so excited about seeing this sweater knit up, and that's just one more reason to finish my stepmother's gift.

More on the shawl once I have pictures!

Have you ever used a certain brand/model of knitting needles that were just an absolute pleasure to knit with? How about crochet?

  1. Wow, I lot has happened recently! The photo box makes a wonderful difference. How nice you are to knit such wonderful gifts! I couldn't get into Minecraft for some reason, I've been obsessed with Borderlands 2 which so far is even better than the first one!

  2. I LOVE my knitpicks interchangable nickel needles. They're awesome.

    Also, Minecraft ftw.

  3. I'm with Mallory- I've got the Knitpicks Options in nickel (because I much prefer metal needles for all but the slipperiest yarns). Very convenient.

    1. Funny thing- I wanted the metal ones, because I prefer the smoothness of metal, but the yarn shop I was at only carried the wood and I was unwilling to wait for shipping.

And honestly, the wood is a lot smoother than I expected it to be!
